Koso Digital Speedometer for Yamaha Mio

It has been quite a long and tiring year that I have not visited this site, and been quite busy on making another information to be shared to all my readers. In lieu of 2017, hopefully everything will be an easy one for me, and so in behalf of the start of a new chapter. Happy New Year to everyone visiting mastercircuits.blogspot.com

This post is just a reminder to all who wishes to use Koso Digital Speedometer for Yamaha Mio as shown

The speedometer is a direct replacement to the original analog type speedometer when you buy a brand new Yamaha Mio sporty model. No special wiring or rewiring, a direct plug and play. Who will not love this kind of a beautiful creation made by Koso Taiwan.

But to some who do not actually know the difference between analog and digital when it comes to speedometer for motorcycles. Special attention on the condition of your  electrical is highly needed before wanting and trying to own the said speedometer. It is fragile if not taken care of properly.

Recently. I have been receiving units for repair from all over my country. The only cause that all of them broke down was battery related issues. A bit of CAUTION to those who are using it.

"DO NOT OPERATE YOUR MOTORCYCLE EQUIPPED WITH KOSO WITHOUT A HEALTHY BATTERY INSTALLED"

or

"NO LOOSE WIRING WITHIN THE ENTIRE POWER RAIL FROM BATTERY ALL THE WAY TO THE POWER CONNECTOR OF THE KOSO UNIT"

Battery acts as the entire voltage stabilizer for your electrical system. With any failure like fuse blown or loose contact connection or not properly bolted terminal. It will damage your unit.WHY?

Photo as shown came from one of the speedometer with on going repair.

The PCB traces was damage due to electrical issue and according to the owner of unit, It was loose battery connection and unsecured bolt on the terminal that causes voltage spike within the entire system.

As of the writing, the traces was gone both top and bottom side of the PCB. It is the trace that handles the power rail of the unit before reaching the step down converter circuit. It is probable that the drop converter which uses the Switchmode type was also damage.

    1. The only advised I can give you is have it repaired by a person qualified to do it, but if you are hesitant to have it repair. There is always an option to buy a brand new unit that cost 70% more than just having it repaired.
